Walmer Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club is situated in Archery Square Walmer, a conservation area only two roads back from the seafront. The club has six high quality laser levelled grass courts, two hard courts and two delightful croquet lawns which are all sheltered from the sea breeze by period houses and mature trees.

The old wooden club house and newly built changing rooms provide 350 tennis and croquet members with traditional and suitable facilities for events and entertaining.

This friendly club is the fourth oldest club in the world which still plays grass court tennis and croquet on its original site. Formed in 1883 by Royal Marine officers stationed at military barracks close by it has continued to grow attracting players from all demographics who enjoy competitive and social games.

Senior Tennis at Walmer Tennis Club

Senior Tennis

Senior Tennis at Walmer fulfils the game’s enjoyment for all standards: beginners, rusty racquets and team tennis. Members have the rare opportunity to play on grass during the summer then move inside during winter.
Junior Tennis at Walmer Tennis Club

Junior Tennis

An important section of the club from minis to teenagers with supervised group coaching by qualified LTA coaches. On ‘Friday Evening is Junior Night’ the whole club is taken over by juniors and parents and children can learn to play and improve their tennis in a delightful, safe environment.
Tennis Coaching at Walmer Tennis Club

Coaching at Walmer has become a success story and is available all year round. We are fortunate in having two new hard courts for coaching, which will be re-laid in 2021, as well as the Indoor Tennis Centre in Deal which provides qualified and professional LTA coaches covering all abilities.

We have a thriving croquet section at Walmer which is enjoyed on our well-maintained lawns.

There is social and competitive play for all abilities and ages – everyone is welcome.

Croquet at walmer lawn tennis club

We have three main competitions in the summer: singles knockout, doubles knockout and doubles round robin (This is run in groups according to ability). At the end of the season there is the Croquet v Tennis players match where a lot of ‘pride’ is at stake followed by a convivial buffet lunch.

Club afternoons are on Tuesday in the summer, when everybody mixes in and it is a good opportunity for new and prospective members to meet us all and build contacts. Tea is served by members in the Clubhouse afterwards.

Dress is informal but flat soled shoes are needed.

If you need any more information come along to the Club or contact the Croquet Captain Nick Douet on 01304 614582.
